Regular Dental Checkups
There are a number of issues that can arise when you don’t visit your dentist on a regular basis. Preventative dental visits don’t just stop cavities from forming, they can prevent a host of other oral health problems that can impact your quality of life, such as gum disease, tooth decay, bad breath, impacted wisdom teeth and more. For this reason, we recommend a biannual visit for you and your family.
As leading dental hygienists, we believe in the power of teeth cleanings, flossing, sealants, and fluoride to prevent dental disease. Our focus is on preventative dental care and services to regularly check your teeth, gums, and overall health.
Our dentists offer the best preventive treatments to help you maintain a strong smile. During your routine appointment, you can expect the following:
A team member at Gentle Dental will welcome you, gather your medical information, and have you complete a dental care questionnaire.
Next, your dental hygienist will greet you in the waiting room.
If Dental x-rays or photos are required, they will be taken to understand the overall health of your mouth and accurately diagnose any dental issues.
We will assess periodontal health by charting and recording gingival and overall oral conditions relating to oral and periodontal (gum) health.
A head and neck cancer screening will be performed. We utilize an oral fluorescence light technology that screens for tissue abnormalities. The goal is to catch lesions before they advance to a cancerous lesion.
Your dental hygienist will perform a teeth cleaning, polish, floss and fluoride treatment.
Expect to have pictures and an oral scan of your dental conditions. We offer the advanced iTero Element scanner with the option to visualize how your teeth might appear in their proper form and function. We are Invisalign providers and can offer comprehensive ortho treatment on certain types of malocclusion cases.
Meet one of our great doctors at Gentle Dental for an exam and also to discuss any areas of concern that you might have.
We will discuss any treatment needs you may have and answer any questions before we schedule treatment.
You can expect your first appointment to take between 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs, so you don’t feel rushed through the process. We invite you back every 6 month for a 1 hour hygiene appointment.
Scaling & Root Planing
When bacteria is present in our mouths it presents early as plaque. When plaque is not sufficiently removed by brushing and flossing it turns to calculus over time.
Calculus produces toxins that cause inflammation in our gums and ultimately lead to bone loss. When the bone recedes, the calculus is able to travel deeper into the gums until the tooth becomes mobile and the tooth will be lost.
Traditional hygiene techniques are not effective for removing calculus. Scaling and root planing hand instruments and devices such as a cavitron will remove the calculus and leave the root smooth to discourage future calculus deposits and to facilitate effective home care.
